Internship and job in London? David did it!

Internship and Job in London? Everything is possible! Read the story of David, our Spanish naval engineer:

Hello David, can you tell us about yourself?
My name is David, I’m from Barcelona and I’m 26 years old.
I have a degree in naval engineering and I came to London for an internship experience. Thanks to Come2England I was able to find a work placement in my sector and a part time job!

How did you contact us?
I don’t remember how it started but my first contact with Come2England has been by Facebook.

Why London?
I choose London because the internship offer was here and I thought it was a good opportunity to improve my English and gain a valid international experience for my CV and future career.

How long did it take you to find a job?
When I first contacted you I was in Spain, it took you just two days to find a company suitable for my internship requirements. Once I arrived in London I started to drop my cv in the places you were recommending me and after just a week I got a part time job as a waiter in a hotel in the City Centre.

How is your internship going?
It is really good! I’m working part time in an international architecture studio as project manager. I’m taking care of a project regarding the renovation of an old boat into luxury rooms, something like a “house-boat”. Basically we are trying to make this old boat into a comfortable and luxury accommodation on the dock. The owner has specific desires and demands and I’m trying to satisfy all his need while contacting proper suppliers for glasses, windows, Jacuzzi and thermal isolation materials. Actually I have more duties as project manager than engineer but that’s what I like the most of this experience!

How is your accommodation?
I’m staying in a student residence in Southwark. It’s very nice, really central (zone 1) and the best thing is that I can just walk to go to work!!! At the moment I’m sharing a twin room with another Chinese boy, he’s very shy but it’s fun staying with him and facing a culture different than mine!  Also the price is very nice as I’m paying around £150 per week but I have a lot of facilities.

What about your part time job?
Thanks to your help I found a job during the weekends as a waiter in a hotel in Central London. The job is quite heavy as I’m working 12h per day on Saturdays and Sundays but it is allowing me to stay here and earn some money to manage my internship so I really can’t complain!

Are you satisfied with our services?
I am grateful for your help! Even it is a paid service it is definitely worth it as I’m sure I could have never done all of this on my own!

What is your ideal accommodation type?

If you are planning a trip, or want to live abroad, there are a few key points to consider when you decide on where to stay. Here are the steps on how to choose the right accommodation and maximize your budget.

Your Goal: First you must know your goal on your trip. You may say it is something as general as a vacation or a business trip, but it is good to actually specify what you want.

Your Time: Knowing or setting the length of your stay can lead you to adjust your accommodation as well.

Your Budget: Draw up a budget table with possible projections on how high you would want to spend for you accommodation. Think of the services you want to avail and extra transportation costs if necessary.

Know you Options:
Now that you have your criteria for your accommodation, you have plenty of options regarding accommodation. Look at your budget, the duration of your stay, and your objectives.

According to your criteria, choose your best option:

Advantages of living in a residence in London

Last but not least, the third way to live in London without spending too much money on the rent is the student residence. This is the cheapest way because you can share, if you want, the facilities such as the kitchen or your room with other people coming from all over the world. These are some reasons to choose the student residence when you are coming in London.
