Chinese New Year takes place
this year on Friday 31th January. Based on the lunar and solar calendars, the
actual date of Chinese New Year varies, but always falls between late January
and mid February.
Chinese New Year is a huge
festival among Chinese communities in London and across the world. London's Chinese New Year
celebrations are the largest outside Asia.
For London the main Chinese
New Year celebrations, marking the Year of the Horse, take place on Sunday
February.
The event will start with a parade along Charing Cross Road and Shaftesbury Avenue starting at around 10am. The main stage in Trafalgar Square will feature visiting artists from China.
There will also be lions and dragons circulating around Chinatown, local artists performing on a stage at the end of Dean Street and traditional food and craft stalls. Even the London Eye will be lit red and gold in celebration!
