Docklands Academy London: A school where you can learn, a school where you can challenge yourself, a school to grow up.

Hi guys today we will tell you Mavi’s story. Mavi attended 3 months English Course in one of our Academies and this is her experience…enjoy!

When I first arrived at the school, I had the impression to stay in a good and professional environment.

I was welcomed by Humberto, a nice guy who explained to me all the different programs and courses of the school  and checked my English level.

The day after I started the General English Course: the first day I was a bit nervous to come in a new class, to be part of a new group of people, to understand a new teacher… but I soon realized that everything would have been fine.

It started in a funny way: the teacher invited all my mates, one by one, to present themselves, to break the ice.
They were friendly, they welcomed me and I started to realize that all of us had the same goal: “learning” something new!

So I gave up with my embarrassment to speak in front of other people, I stood up and started to think: “OK, let’s start to introduce myself, let’s say something about me to these people that are looking strange at me” < Hello guys, nice to meet you, I’m not an alien; I’m here to learn English like you…>

The presentation went well ... they burst into laughs… the environment immediately became friendly. I set down, and my first class started.

I was used to university lessons, where a teacher speaks and the students just write a pile of notes to not forget anything.

Not here, here it’s different, I felt like a little child, and to tell the truth, I am not sorry at all, day-to-day, I realized that maybe what we are missing right now is the desire to learn and to be surprised in front of every new thing.

The lessons are prepared by the teacher that organise the morning in different activities, to focus the attention on Vocabulary, Speaking, Grammar, Writing, Listening, Reading etc. and for every activity there are a lot of exercises to do.

The lessons are very interesting because it is an uninterrupted exchange of feedback between students, and between students and teacher.

Every day there is a return of opinions, at times disagreement, but every time in a polite and productive way; in this manner you can learn how to know different cultures and how to confront your culture with different ones.

Four times a week the lessons are prepared by the same teacher whereas the fifth is touch by another teacher that focus the attention on Linguistic: pronunciation and speaking.

This kind of lesson in very interesting and funny at the same time: we do breathing exercises to activate facial muscles, the diaphragm and the vocal cords . During the lesson we try to produce a singular English sound following the activities the teacher prepared for us, and she always correct us if the sound is produced wrong.

In this way you have the possibility to learn and improve your English pronunciation, trying to hide your mother tongue diction.

The school also tries to push the students to socialize outside the school.  I think this is very important to get to know new people and (why not?) strike up with them.

I suggest everyone to go to this school, to learn a new language, to learn also new cultures and how to tell your point of view.

I personally lived this experience in a very positive way, and if in the future I am going back to London, I would return to the Docklands Academy, being sure to achieve all my goals.
